§1
Thusly Mr. Gašturiraḫšali:
Mr. Tippurrui, the man of Pittalaḫšuwa, brought the enemy to the city of Galzana. May My Sun, my lord, beware of the Old Men of the city of Pittalaḫšuwa who are in the prescence of My Sun, my lord!

COMMENTARY

This is an intriguing letter. Why would the elders ("Old Men") be with the Great King? Many possibilities arise, but it is very interesting that the elders of Pittalaḫšuwa themselves (some of them, at least) have gone to visit the Great King. Clearly, Mr. Gašturiraḫšali feels that, in light of Tippurrui's actions, they pose a threat to the king. Whether this is a physical threat or a conspiratorial threat cannot be established without further information. One also wonders if the elders were sent as a diversion, or if a new faction gained the upper hand in their absence.
